WOW! The last week has been exceptionally busy both at work and at home. Fortunately, not many activities or meetings are scheduled for 5.30am in the morning and so the busy-ness didn't interrupt my training. I just trained on less sleep!
A highlight of this week was watching Little A's 1st grade soccer team play top quality soccer throughout Kanga Cup (national soccer competition). They really had it taken up to them in all their games and had to work hard to get through to the grand final. Then the grand final (yesterday) was a nail biter! Down 1-0 until 15mins into the second half Little A herself scored to equalise. Whew! But as the time rolled on fear of a penalty shoot out to decide it (a la the grand final last year!) set in. Thankfully, a second goal with 5mins til fulltime put our girls in front and left us wishing the remaining time away. Finally, the fulltime whistle blew and they took the win. YEY! It was wonderful. Being part of the kids' sporting lives is one of the best parts of being a parent and watching them learn life lessons through it is another.
Back to running .... I ran a quality 40km long run this morning. My recovery is going to = listening to GEM's choir sing in a concert performance this afternoon. I sooooooooooo hope I don't fall asleep!

There is never enough kms in the legs to do ultras, so you manage with what you have done. The secret is the no going out too hard to start. Having said that, I feel good and excited as the race gets closer.
The secret is to sit up the back so nobody sees you sleeping. Tim Gavel said on the radio he gets some of his best sleep when he takes his kids to see a movie.
The secret is out, so what happens between now and October. You need to get a plan from the experts, and work on pacing. Time on feet over 4 hours building is now important. And eating and drinking. Go for it, you'll do well.
It's in Sept, that's even closer.
