As planned, it's been a pretty easy running weekend for me - nothing too long and nothing fast. It's funny though how I always mistakenly think that if I'm going to have an easy running weekend then the weekend as a whole is going to be easy - ie, relaxed and slow. But the time gained by not running long sessions is always quickly soaked up by other things. This weekend has been very busy with kids' sport, out of hours work, and a myriad of domestic chores. Still, there's been some fun as well - ie, watching the kids both play first class soccer, and wine tasting @ Jan and Ian's last night - and it's served its purpose in running terms by giving me a bit more recovery post the Great Ocean Road 45km last weekend. May be it's simply that weekends need to be 3 days!
It's only 6 weeks til the Gold Coast marathon now. That is enough time to get some more decent training in and taper properly. But is it enough time for my marathon speed to have actually improved? That's the question .... Time will tell.

Read all about Martin at the 48 hour run in France. Then, get inspired to venture in to the running world of ultras. He's about to go past 400 kms in 48 hours with time still to go.
Yeah, Martin is awesome but the 100km+ and 24hr+ thing is beyond the comprehension of both my mind and body at the moment. I'm staying focussed on 42.2km until at least 6 July 2009.
Watch the video of the final 10 minutes from France, look at the only one who is totally focused after 48 hours, no sleep, little rest. No wonder he is soooo good. Learn a lot from him. Angela may be doing some mtn training on Mt Tennent soon, better than Majura or Ainslie she thinks, will run with Trev up and over a couple of times, like we ( without you) did leading up to SFT. Good fun.
