Here we are at the end of 2010 and it has been another varied, challenging and enjoyable year of running for me. Key features of my running year include:
Total kilometres for year: 5255.5kms
Major Marathons: Hobart Marathon, Canberra Marathon, Gold Coast Marathon, Melbourne Marathon.
Major Ultra Marathons: Cradle Mountain 84km Ultra Marathon (Tas), Tan 100km Ultra Marathon (Melb, Vic).
Other Significant Races: Weston Creek Half Marathon, Canberra Times 10km Fun Run.
Training Highlights: Regular long runs with GEM on bike alongside me. Introduction of "Wednesday West" training group runs. Post long run coffees with running mates on Saturdays.
Running/Racing Highlights: Running 3.11 at the Gold Coast Marathon in July. Running and winning my inaugural 100km ultra marathon at the Tan 100km Ultra Marathon in Melb in August.
Running/Racing Low Points: A serious lesson in humility as I struggled through the last ~30km of the Cradle Mountain 84km Ultra Marathon. Virgin airlines causing me to miss my flight to the Christchurch Marathon in June. Running an over tired, niggling injured and disappointing Melbourne Marathon in October.
Running Lessons Learnt: I can run ultra marathons. Cummulative fatigue is real.
Tomorrow is the start of a new year. My running/racing plans for 2011 include:
Training Plans: Sticking with the weekly running program that has worked well for me this year. Adding some more flexibility exercises to my core strength sessions. Making myself swim 1-2 times per week. Avoiding cummulative fatigue.
Racing Plans: Centennial Park 100km in Feb, Canberra Marathon in April, Christchurch Marathon in June. (July 2011 onwards - To Be Decided).
So, as one happy year of running draws to a close there is more of the same but different to look forward to in 2011. As my most favourite Irish blessing says:
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
Happy New Year everyone.

Hi Jog, a nice mix of running. Something old, something new, something long and something short just like it ought to be. Hope your 2011 is just as productive.
Great pic Liz!!!
What a nice wrap up of the year. It's good to write it out like that, you'd realise how much you have to be proud of.
Hope 2011 brings you even more running joy!
That Irish blessing is on my fridge and is also one of my faves! Have a great 2011 Liz. I know you will achieve what you set out to do with your amazing dedication and motivation. Fingers crossed that this will be a fantastic injury-free year for you. I'm looking forward to more of those post long run coffees! xx
Yes, that's a great photo. I like the soft focus of the Aussie bush in the background. Will join you on avoiding cummulative fatigue and enjoying plenty of post-run coffees!
Recall sending you a copy of the Irish blessing when you first went to university. Little did I think about how literally it could be taken.
